Once your visitors have decided to purchase something from your ecommerce store, they have decided they like your brand, your product, and your site. Your product range has sparked their interest to that extent that they just can’t live without that one thing, they have decided to buy.
In other words, don’t send emails that look/sound like spam, and you should be able to steer clear of all spam filters. Most importantly, always set up a double opt-in email list to protect yourself and your subscribers.

All direct marketing communications must include some method with which to track responses. Auto responder sequence – consider your goals here; this can be a great opportunity to grow your passive income, but avoid the hard sell approach. Nobody likes to sign up to an email list only to be battered with promotional emails.

If you insist on using social proof, I highly recommend you to use more quirky numbers. It is more powerful saying ‘Join 4,693 other ecommerce fans. Get your tips now.’ It seems like the number is the exact number of subscribers and will seem more accurate.
This more intimate medium of communication lends itself to more honest decisions; that’s an important reason why people will always be “warmer” to being sold on their interests via email, and just another reason why email will always beat social media marketing.
You may also notice that Chen takes a different approach to social proof. He does not advertise the number of subscribers to his list but rather mentions recommendations from Wired magazine and 500 Startups.
Brian. You talk about how all these variables matter in getting this article to rank #1 for “list building” and how competitors have way more links than you, but then you also consider your DA and your PA together, you have almost the highest score out of the top 10 rankings; and when you consider you are more topical authority, then that explains why Hugpages (all purpose site) is not ranking higher. Maybe its not all as complicated as you suggest.

I got my user ID and password, and started looking around their Web site. I figured since we have done a lot of email marketing work for publishers, I’d use publishing-related SIC codes to narrow my search. Then I narrowed things down a little more using nearby states, adding new states until I got close to the 5,000 email mark.
When a company you’ve never heard of sends you a marketing email you probably flag them as spam or simply delete the email. Sending to a purchased email list won’t engender trust nor will it won’t create a relationship with the potential customer.
– Provide webinars. People love free educational seminars, that’s why webinars are considered the best performing lead magnet. However they have one downside: they take more time and effort to prepare and implement. Anyway, keep webinars in your mind as they can transform your business.
